Our leadership team has enabled our company to evolve from a single biodiesel plant in 1996 into a widely recognized, fully integrated advanced biofuel and renewable chemicals company.


  President and Chief Executive Officer

Cynthia (CJ) Warner became the President & CEO of Renewable Energy Group (REG) in  January, 2019.  

For more than 35 years, CJ has held executive positions in the energy sector in operations, business development, strategy, technology development, and environment, health, and safety. She has led operations globally for large refiners including Andeavor and BP as well as scale-up and development efforts in novel renewable energy technologies. 

Prior to REG, Ms. Warner served as Executive Vice President, Operations for Andeavor (formerly Tesoro). She oversaw Andeavor’s Refining; Logistics; and Environment, Health, Safety & Security groups, providing leadership that promoted safe, reliable, efficient, and value-enhancing execution.   Prior to that role, Ms. Warner served as Andeavor’s Executive Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, where she led the Company’s strategic growth initiatives.

Prior to Andeavor, Ms. Warner held executive leadership roles at several global energy companies. She was Chairman and CEO of Sapphire Energy from 2012 to 2014, after joining as President in 2009, where she led the emerging biofuels company’s ongoing technology development and transition to commercial-scale algae bio mass and renewable crude oil production. 

Prior to Sapphire Energy, Ms. Warner served as Group Vice President of Global Refining and Group Vice President of Health, Safety, Security, Environmental and Technology for British Petroleum (BP). During her 10-year tenure with BP, she oversaw refining operations in five continents and led a ground-breaking cooperative effort with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to shape an industry-wide framework for clean air improvements.

Ms. Warner began her career as a chemical engineer at UOP, followed by several years in operational leadership roles at Amoco. She is a featured leader in the 2008 book Becoming a Resonant Leader: Develop Your Emotional Intelligence (Harvard Business Press) and was named one of Fast Company’s 100 most creative people in business in 2010.

Ms. Warner serves as a member of the Board of Directors for IDEX Corporation. She is also a member of the National Petroleum Council and the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni.   

Ms. Warner earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Chief Financial Officer

For more than 25 years, Chad Stone has served in various financial and consulting roles. Currently, Mr. Stone serves as the Chief Financial Officer, Renewable Energy Group, Inc. 

As the CFO, Mr. Stone is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the company by working with the Executive Management Team and Board of Directors to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies. In his role, he also oversees financial reporting, treasury, human resources, investor relations, information technology and SEC reporting.

In his professional experience, Mr. Stone has served as a director at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Chicago and Cincinnati, focusing primarily in the energy and utilities industry, as well as a manager at Arthur Andersen in the Chicago office.

Mr. Stone holds a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Iowa. 

Mr. Stone served on the Executive Board of the Iowa Biodiesel Board from 2010 to 2016.  He also served on the School of Management Advisory Committee for the University Of Iowa Tippie School Of Business. Chad currently serves as Vice Chair for the National Biodiesel Board on the Governing Board and Executive Committee. 



Vice President, Manufacturing

For more than 25 years, Brad Albin has lead all aspects of manufacturing operations at state-of-the-art, commercial manufacturing facilities — including experience in executive operations positions in multi-feedstock biodiesel, chemical, food and automotive supplier companies. Mr. Albin held a charter member position within the National Biodiesel Accreditation Committee (NBAC) and played a significant role in drafting the BQ-9000® Standard and various aspects of the ASTM D6751 specifications on the ASTM D2 committee.

Prior to joining REG, Mr. Albin managed the engineering, operations, quality, R & D and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and served as Vice President or Director for companies such as Monsanto.


Vice President, Sales and Marketing

For more than 15 years, Gary Haer has been at the forefront of the biodiesel industry. As the biodiesel industry began to take shape in early 2000, Mr. Haer served as the National Sales and Marketing Manager for biodiesel for West Central.

As REG emerged from West Central, Mr. Haer took the lead on coordinating the Sales and Marketing department including national and international biodiesel sales. In 2010, Mr. Haer's sales team was responsible for approximately 25 percent of all biodiesel sold in the United States.


Vice President, Corporate Business Development & Legal Affairs

For more than 10 years, Eric Bowen has been at the forefront of development for start-up companies with an emphasis on biofuels. Mr. Bowen is an expert within the management and legal fields with an emphasis on venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and IPOs.

 Prior to joining REG, Mr. Bowen was Founder, President & CEO of Tellurian Biodiesel, Inc. (acquired by REG). He has also led Sigma Capital's biodiesel project finance group and practiced law in Silicon Valley at Venture Law Group. Mr. Bowen served as Chairman for the California Biodiesel Alliance until 2012.


Chief of Staff & Vice President and Corporate Secretary

For more than 15 years, Natalie Merrill has worked within the finance and accounting sectors. Ms. Merrill leads Corporate Finance and Investment Banking activities for REG with responsibility for financing strategy and mergers and acquisitions.  Additionally, she oversees the company’s operations control team and operations center. Ms. Merrill assists in the evaluation of business development opportunities and strategic investments and coordinates internal financial analysis on behalf of other REG business units.

Ms. Merrill has more than a decade of experience in the financial sector. She joined REG in 2007 as senior manager of Corporate Finance and Investment Banking before being promoted to treasurer. Prior to joining REG, Ms. Merrill served as a senior consultant for Deloitte Consulting in Kansas City.

Ms. Merrill holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Washington University in St. Louis, a Master of Accountancy from Truman State University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Truman State University. Ms. Merrill is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant.  

On a community level, Ms. Merrill serves on the Board of Directors for the Central Iowa Chapter for American Red Cross, a member and past Treasurer for Metro Women Connect and is  a former board member of the Ames Chamber of Commerce.


Lenhart, Doug color


Vice President, Procurement

For more than three years, Doug Lenhart served as the Executive Director, Procurement & Logistics. His prior jobs working in agriculture livestock and banking provided him with prolific experience in commodity trading and risk management activities. He is currently serving as Vice President, Procurement & Logistics.

Mr. Lenhart serves as a member of REG’s senior management team and contributes to strategic business decisions for the North America and European markets. He oversees purchasing of feedstocks and chemicals, sales of co-products and all of the various transportation methods REG uses. Mr. Lenhart provides oversight and metrics to ensure the performance of all the activities, as well as looking for continuous improvement. Another important part of his role is empowering his employees to have confidence in their decision making.

Mr. Lenhart received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business from Illinois State University and his MBA from Iowa State University. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Iowa Biodiesel Board as well as the Executive Advisory Board of the Iowa State University MBA Program.

Raymond Richie


Vice President, Strategic Planning & Analysis, Managing Director, European Operations
Raymond Richie has a broad business background that was developed by leading companies, consulting executives of large multinational companies, and serving in Chief Financial Officer roles.

Prior to joining REG, Mr. Richie spent a number of years as a management consultant with Ernst & Young, LLP and a boutique agribusiness firm where he specialized in helping clients make market entry, strategic direction, and pricing decisions. Mr. Richie leads a team that helps REG evaluate current and new market opportunities, integrate acquisitions into the company, and coordinate large cross functional projects. Additionally, he serves on all Boards within Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain.
